How Chloramphenicol, Prednisolone, Acetic Acid, and Benzocaine Work Chloramphenicol, Prednisolone, Acetic Acid, and Benzocaine is a combination of four medications. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required for vital bacterial functions. This action does not directly kill the bacteria but prevents their multiplication, ultimately resolving the infection. Prednisolone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers in the body responsible for inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies. Acetic acid belongs to the class of medications known as antibacterial and antifungal agents. It works by maintaining the pH, thereby preventing the growth of bacteria and fungi. Benzocaine functions by blocking pain signals from the peripheral nerves to the brain, which reduces the sensation of pain. Together, Chloramphenicol, Prednisolone, Acetic Acid, and Benzocaine effectively treat ear infections.
