Dacomitinib is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer.
How it Works
How Dacomitinib works Dacomitinib inhibits a protein known as the human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER), which can lead to accelerated growth and spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body. This action may help limit the spread of cancer.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Dacomitinib include increased blood glucose levels, decreased blood calcium levels, elevated liver enzymes, dry skin, decreased appetite, lymphopenia, constipation, stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth), rash, diarrhea, weight loss, cough, low blood albumin levels, and paronychia.

- After starting Dacomitinib treatment, you may be at risk of infection. To minimize this risk:

- Drink at least two to three quarts of fluid every day, unless instructed otherwise.
- To reduce nausea:
- Take antinausea medications as prescribed by your doctor.
- Eat small, frequent meals.
- To help treat or prevent mouth sores:
- Use a soft toothbrush.
- Rinse your mouth at least three times a day with saline water.
- Consume foods that may help reduce diarrhea and ensure you get adequate rest.
