Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel Uses Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel are used for contraception. They may also be used in the treatment of irregular periods.

How it Works

How Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel work Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel is an oral contraceptive pill. It works by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) and affecting sperm movement in the womb to prevent its union with the egg. It also alters the lining of the womb, making it unsuitable for pregnancy.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel include nausea, stomach pain, headache, irregular uterine bleeding, weight gain, and breast pain.

Your doctor has prescribed Ethinyl Estradiol + Desogestrel to help you prevent pregnancy.
This medication may also result in:
- Lighter, less painful, and more regular menstrual bleeding.
- A reduced risk of ovarian cancer.
Take your pill at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.
You may experience menstrual irregularities, such as:
- Spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods.
- Missed periods.
Consult your doctor if these irregularities persist.
Do not use Ethinyl Estradiol + Desogestrel if you:
- Are obese.
- Are over 35 years old.
- Smoke.
- Are on prolonged bed rest.
- Have a history of blood clots.

- Unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs.
- Shortness of breath.
- Chest pain.
- Severe headache.
- Changes in vision.
These symptoms could indicate a blood clot in a vein.
Stop taking Ethinyl Estradiol + Desogestrel and inform your doctor immediately if you notice:
- Your skin and the whites of your eyes turning yellow (jaundice).
- Severe stomach pain.
- Severe depression.
- If you think you could be pregnant.
