Dulaglutide

Uses

Dulaglutide is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be administered as a monotherapy when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate blood sugar control in patients for whom metformin is deemed inappropriate. Additionally, it can be used as an add-on therapy with other glucose-lowering medications if necessary.

How it Works

How Dulaglutide works Dulaglutide is an antidiabetic medication. It works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas, decreasing hormones that raise blood sugar levels, slowing down digestion, and reducing appetite.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Dulaglutide include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level), abdominal pain, and dyspepsia.

Frequently asked questions

Store Dulaglutide in the refrigerator at 2°C - 8°C, avoiding freezing. Keep it in the original packaging to protect it from light, and out of reach of children. Do not use if the pen is damaged or if the medication appears cloudy, discolored, or has lumps.
No, Dulaglutide is not an insulin. It is a medication used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It increases insulin release from the pancreas, suppresses glucagon secretion, and reduces glucose production in the liver, while also slowing stomach emptying.
Dulaglutide is administered via a subcutaneous injection in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. It should not be injected into a muscle or vein. Use a different injection site within the same area each week, and follow your doctor's instructions. It can be taken with or without food, and should not be mixed with insulin in the same syringe. Regular blood sugar monitoring is recommended.
Dulaglutide helps with weight loss by improving blood sugar control and slowing digestion, which promotes a feeling of fullness and reduces food intake.
Dulaglutide may increase the risk of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma and pancreatitis. Discontinue use and consult your doctor if you experience symptoms of thyroid issues (such as a lump in the throat or hoarseness) or pancreatitis (including severe abdominal pain, back pain, fever, nausea, or vomiting).
