Uses

Ferrous Bisglycinate is used in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia and anemia associated with chronic kidney disease.

How it Works

How Ferrous Bisglycinate works Ferrous Bisglycinate is an anti-anemic medication that replenishes the iron stores in the body. Iron is essential for the formation of new red blood cells and hemoglobin, the substance that enables these cells to transport oxygen.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Ferrous Bisglycinate include vomiting, nausea, dark-colored stool, constipation, and diarrhea.

Expert Advice

  • Consult your doctor before administering it to children.
  • Ensure that other causes of anemia have been investigated, including:
    • Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency
    • Drug-induced anemia
    • Exposure to poisons such as lead
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if allergic to ferrous bisglycinate or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have hemochromatosis (a hereditary disorder where iron salts accumulate in tissues, leading to liver damage, diabetes mellitus, and bronze discoloration of the skin).
  • Do not take if you have hemosiderosis (a condition characterized by iron overload resulting in the accumulation of the iron-storage complex hemosiderin).
