Uses

Fosfomycin is used in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections of the urinary tract.

How it Works

How Fosfomycin works Fosfomycin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the protective covering necessary for their survival. Additionally, it reduces bacterial attachment to the cells lining the bladder.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Fosfomycin include headache, diarrhea, and inflammation of the nose.

Expert Advice

Fosfomycin is used to treat and prevent bacterial infections of the urinary tract.
Dissolve it in a glass of water and drink immediately, preferably at bedtime, 2 hours after meals (after emptying the bladder).
Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, and ensure adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water while taking Fosfomycin.
Diarrhea is a common side effect; inform your doctor if it does not improve or if you notice blood in your stools.
Fosfomycin may cause dizziness or sleepiness; do not drive or engage in activities requiring concentration until you understand how it affects you.
Symptoms should improve within 2 to 3 days of the single dose treatment; inform your doctor if you do not feel better after this period.
