How it Works

How Gimeracil + Oteracil + Tegafur works Gimeracil + Oteracil + Tegafur is a combination of anticancer medications. Tegafur is converted to its active form, known as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which inhibits the synthesis and function of genetic material, DNA and RNA, thereby preventing the growth of cancer cells. Gimeracil prevents the breakdown of 5-FU, helping to maintain high concentrations of the drug against cancer cells. Oteracil suppresses the gastrointestinal toxicity associated with 5-FU.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Gimeracil, Oteracil, and Tegafur include bone marrow suppression, acute renal failure, diarrhea, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and lacrimation (increased tear production).

  • You may be at risk of infection; therefore, try to avoid crowds or individuals with colds.
  • Gargle upon returning home.
  • Wash your hands before meals and before and after using the bathroom.
