Melitracen is used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, bed-wetting, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia, and neuropathic pain. It is prescribed for patients who are intolerant of or unresponsive to other treatment options for depression.

How it Works

How Melitracen works Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant. It increases the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain that help regulate mood and treat depression.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Melitracen include increased heart rate, difficulty urinating, dry mouth, weight gain, constipation, and orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing).

Expert Advice

It may take 4 to 6 weeks for Melitracen to start working. Keep taking it as prescribed.
Melitracen may cause sleepiness; take it at bedtime and avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Melitracen, as it may lead to excessive sleepiness.
Monitor your weight during treatment, as this medication can cause weight gain and increased appetite.
Melitracen may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure; rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.
Consult your doctor if you notice sudden mood changes or develop suicidal thoughts.
The main dose should be taken at night, as this medication may induce drowsiness or sleepiness.
It can take 2 to 3 weeks for Melitracen to start working.
