Rivaroxaban

Rivaroxaban is used for stroke prevention, as well as the prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It helps prevent the formation of blood clots in the legs, lungs, brain, or heart.

How Rivaroxaban Works Rivaroxaban is a novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC). It functions by inhibiting the formation of blood clots in the body.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Rivaroxaban include dizziness, headache, nosebleeds, hypotension (low blood pressure), hematoma, increased liver transaminases, and itching.

  • For optimal results, take Rivaroxaban at the same time every day.
  • It is recommended to take it at night with meals, as this reduces interactions with food and other medications.
  • Frequent dose adjustments are generally unnecessary.
  • Rivaroxaban increases your risk of bleeding; exercise caution when:
    • Shaving
    • Cutting fingernails or toenails
    • Using sharp objects
    • Engaging in contact sports (e.g., football, wrestling)
  • It may cause dizziness; avoid driving or activities requiring mental focus until you understand how it affects you.
  • If you are scheduled for surgery or dental treatment, you may need to temporarily discontinue Rivaroxaban.
