Sacubitril and Valsartan Uses Sacubitril and Valsartan are used in the treatment of heart failure. They reduce the risk of hospitalization and death associated with chronic heart failure.

How it Works

How Sacubitril + Valsartan works Sacubitril + Valsartan is a combination of two medications: Sacubitril and Valsartan, which belong to a class of angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitors (ARNI). This combination treats heart failure by relaxing blood vessels and making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body. Additionally, it helps the body retain less water.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Sacubitril and Valsartan include hypotension (low blood pressure), dizziness, cough, increased potassium levels in the blood, acute renal failure, decreased hematocrit levels, and increased creatinine levels in the blood.

  • You have been prescribed Sacubitril + Valsartan for the treatment of long-lasting (chronic) heart failure.
  • You should continue to stay active with light walking and stretching.
  • Maintain a healthy, low-sodium diet while taking this medication.
  • To reduce the chances of feeling dizzy, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.
  • This medication may cause an increase in potassium levels in your blood.
  • Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as bananas and broccoli.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney diseases.
  • Do not take Sacubitril + Valsartan if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

No, Sacubitril+Valsartan should be avoided during pregnancy as it can harm the baby. If you become pregnant while taking this medication, discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately.
Patients allergic to any components of Sacubitril+Valsartan, those with a history of allergies to ACE inhibitors or ARBs, and individuals taking other antihypertensive medications like ACE inhibitors or ARBs should avoid this medication. It should not be taken within 36 hours before or after ACE inhibitor use. Consult your doctor if unsure.
Your doctor will periodically check your blood potassium levels to monitor for hyperkalemia. Ensure you attend all scheduled appointments.
Inform your doctor about all medical conditions, especially liver or kidney disease, and any history of facial swelling (angioedema). Disclose if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and list all medications you are taking, particularly potassium supplements, painkillers, and blood pressure or heart failure medications (such as ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or Aliskiren).
