Dapsone is used in the treatment of leprosy and acne.
How it Works
How Dapsone works Dapsone is an anti-leprotic medication. In leprosy, it works by inhibiting the production of folic acid in certain bacteria, thereby preventing their growth. In acne, it halts the proliferation of acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes) and helps reduce the redness and swelling associated with acne lesions.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Dapsone include anemia (low number of red blood cells), erythema (skin redness), skin peeling, dryness, hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells), and increased reticulocytes.

- Dapsone is used in the treatment of leprosy.
- It may also assist in the treatment of acne when used as a gel.

- Stopping treatment early may cause the infection to return and become harder to treat.
